12 cars we can’t wait for in 2024Ford

Hereby Road and rail, a new year means new opportunities to drive some of the world’s most exciting cars. These are the new models we’re most looking forward to getting our hands on in 2024.

Ford Mustang GTD

The Mustang goes all-in on performance. In the same year that Ford’s GT3 pony car goes racing, the road car division has set its sights on the Porsche 911 GT3 RS. The result is a Mustang with 800 horsepower, the most advanced suspension Multimatic can bring to the market, and a rear-mounted transaxle. This isn’t just any modern front-engine supercar, it’s one built on the same S650-generation Ford Mustang that some buyers can opt for an EcoBoost inline-four.

Cadillac Celstiq

On the other side of American ambition, Cadillac is taking aim at Rolls-Royce and Bentley with a new elegant luxury sedan. The Celestiq harkens back to an era when Cadillacs were world-class, while at the same time the brand was moving toward its electric future. World class comes at a price, though: Celestiq buyers will shell out $300,000 for the eventual use of the Ultium platform.

Future Dodge Charger EV

Dodge still hasn’t shown us exactly what the electrified replacement for its long-lived Charger and Challenger muscle cars will be, but a concept and a Christmas ad have teased the impending arrival of a stylish two-door performance car. With Dodge’s “last call” for Challengers and Chargers nearing completion, the brand’s era of electric power should begin very soon.

Cadillac Escalade IQ

While the Celestiq will serve as Cadillac’s new flagship in a segment it hasn’t targeted since World War II, the Escalade IQ is a new twist on the brand’s modern flagship. With a massive 200 kWh battery pack that delivers a range of 450 miles and a powertrain that produces around 750 horsepower, the electric Escalade is just as outrageous as its gas-powered brother.

Mercedes-Benz EQG

It has been more than two years since Mercedes-Benz first showed its concept for an electric G-Wagen. After 26 months of mostly radio silence, Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Källenius took what appeared to be a production-ready electrified G-Class off-road in a video last month. The battery-powered flagship SUV will be available very soon, which means we’ll be getting behind the wheel soon enough.

Clear gravity

Now that the Lucid Air has established itself as both a luxury car and a performance car, the brand is finally expanding with an SUV. This is the Gravity, a highly anticipated premium crossover that brings the brand’s strengths to an entirely new segment. Impressively, Lucid does all this with about half the battery capacity of other large electric SUVs like the Cadillac Escalade IQ and GMC Hummer EV.

Volkswagen ID.Buzz

The Volkswagen ID.Buzz van may already be for sale elsewhere, but the American market will have to wait a while. That will change next year, when a more powerful ID.Buzz with a bigger battery finally arrives on our shores. If the wait felt long, it was: the stylish successor to VW’s classic bus was first seen as a concept in 2017.

BMW M5

The latest 5 Series is here, which means the latest M5 is just around the corner. BMW hasn’t revealed any official details about the car yet, but rumors suggest it will produce big power from a V-8, assisted by a hybrid powertrain. The next M5 will not only come as a station wagon, the US may also get the five-door variant this time.

Polestar 5

Since the Polestar 5 was first shown as the Precept concept, it has been one of our most anticipated new electric vehicles. After years of development, our chance to drive the car should be imminent. It also has to be fast. The brand is aiming for almost 900 hp for its grand touring sports sedan.

Porsche Macan EV

Porsche’s excellent compact crossover will soon go electric. Although we haven’t seen the final car yet, the details Porsche has already shared are promising: 603 hp, a range of 500 kilometers according to the European WLTP test cycle and the kind of on-track performance that Taycan owners have come to expect from a Porsche EV. The current Macan is still the best driving crossover you can buy, so the electric version must meet a high score.

Lexus GX

After 14 years there is finally a new Lexus GX. The new truck is blocky and brash, but its modernized appearance offers the same capabilities buyers expect from the GX nameplate. The Overtrail trim comes with 33-inch tires and limited-slip differentials, so it should remain capable enough to get where you need to go.

Toyota Land Cruiser

The other new Toyota-designed off-roader takes the Land Cruiser badge back to basics. The US market Land Cruiser is no longer a luxury truck and is now sold in the “Mid-$50,000 range” with cloth seats. The Land Cruiser is simplified and still trail-ready, just as it always should have been.
