The electronic star, 36, took the stage at Coachella Weekend 1 on Saturday, April 13, and encountered a handful of issues during her set, as her songs were sped up too quickly. During her Sahara Stage set, the “Genesis” singer thanked the crowd for bearing with her and apologized, but she issued a formal statement about X shortly after coming off stage.

“I would like to apologize for the technical difficulties with the show tonight,” Grimes wrote.

In the Canadian artist’s post, she gave more context to what happened and explained that she didn’t prepare her mix deck herself, as she usually does. She promised that she would be more involved with the audience should any disruptions occur in the future, and assured fans that nothing would go wrong when she performs at Coachella Weekend 2 on Saturday, April 20.

“Next week I will personally organize all the files. I will not let something like this happen again,” said the musician. “I’ve spent months on this show, creating music and visuals, and admittedly I’m not in the best mood. But yes, next week will be flawless, everything will run through my hands.”

“Some good lessons learned. Greetings all. The CDJs were showing me bpms of 370 so I couldn’t even mix manually by ear and the front monitors were off so it was literally sonic chaos on my end while I was trying to guess how things sounded to you guys,” she concluded, signing the note by asking for forgiveness and wishing her fans “love always.”

Grimes last released a full-length album in 2020 with her third LP, Ms. Anthropocene.
